Complete guide to Calgary's Mountain Time, Stampede schedule, energy industry hours, and more.
⛰️ Mountain Time Zone Explained
Calgary, Alberta operates on Mountain Time (MT). During daylight saving time (March–November), it observes Mountain Daylight Time (MDT, UTC-6). During winter months, it uses Mountain Standard Time (MST, UTC-7).
Notably, Alberta is the only Canadian province in the Mountain Time Zone that observes DST. Saskatchewan (to the east) stays on CST (UTC-6) year-round and never changes clocks. This means Saskatchewan and Alberta share the same time in winter but differ in summer.
Calgary vs. Edmonton Time
Calgary and Edmonton are both in Alberta and share exactly the same time year-round. Both cities are on Mountain Time (MDT/MST). When it's 9 AM in Calgary, it's also 9 AM in Edmonton.

Why No DST in Saskatchewan?
Saskatchewan chose to stay on CST (UTC-6) permanently in 1966, reasoning that DST caused disruption to farming schedules. This makes Saskatchewan unique — in winter it matches Calgary's time, but in summer it's 1 hour ahead of Calgary (MDT = UTC-6, CST = UTC-6... actually same). During summer DST, Calgary is UTC-6 and Saskatchewan is also UTC-6 CST, so they match in summer!
